Relationships and Change - Week 46 Lesson 1- Fractions, Decimals, and Percents

Objective (Teaching Point):

  • To know that percentage is the number of parts per 100

  • to recognize equivalent percentages, fractions and decimals

  • to convert between fractions and decimals

  • to order fractions

Lesson:
  • This lesson will be an extension of the previous lesson.

  • The focus for today will be recurring decimals.

  • Ask the class to convert 1/3 to a decimal or a percentage. Remind everyone to divide the numerator(täljare) by the denominator(nämnare).
  • As a class write 1/3 and 2/3 as a decimal and a percent. For percentages just round to the hundredth place.
  • Repeat for 1/9 and 7/9

    Worksheet:

    Extra Challenge:

    Support:
    • to convert fractions to decimals quickly, give students access to calculators. This is especially helpful for students with difficulties dividing.

    • A calculator will also help these students convert from a decimal to a percentage.

    Extension:
    • Try to convert fractions with denominators of 6, 7 and 9 into percents.

      • Ex. What is 5/6 and 2/7 as a percent?
