Statistics and Probability (Time, Tables, & Diagrams) - Week 6: Lesson 1: Averages & Range
This week, we will be discussing how to find different types of averages from a set of data.
- Mean - Medelvärde (add all the numbers and divide by the amount of elements/numbers in total)
- Median - Median (the number in the middle of a set of numbers listed in ascending order)
- Mode - Typvärde (the number that appears the most often (has the highest frequency) in a set of data (numbers)
*It is always easiest to order the numbers from least to greatest before calculating.

Range - Värdemängd (the difference between the highest and lowest numbers in a set of data which is listed from least to greatest. Take the highest number and subtract the lowest number from it)
E.g. A marathon race was completed by 5 runners. What is the range of times given in hours below?
2,7 hr, 8,3 hr, 3,5 hr, 5,1 hr, 4,9 hr
1.Order the data from least to greatest: 2,7 3,5 4,9 5,1 8,3
2. Subtract the lowest number from the highest: 8,3 hr - 2,7 hr = 5,6 hr
Answer: The range is 5,6 hr
