Probability and Statistics - Week 5: Lesson 2: Interpreting Graphs
Objective (Teaching Point): Organize data using a tally chart / frequency table Understand and use frequency tables. Frequency tables Here is a clip introducing tally charts. We will construct a tally chart together on the board The tally chart on the board will have three labelled columns - 'categories', 'tally' and 'total' as well as a title. Once we complete it as a class the students will be asked to complete their own. Bar charts Make sure students understand how to read a bar graph. You can make your own bar graph here. Or display this bar graph to explain how it can be read. Before continue, ask if anyone else has any questions on either bar graphs or frequency tables. If no one has any questions work in small groups to complete the rest of the section. Work In Class: Textbook: Page 6, 7, 8 #Q. 1 - 6 Play the Bitesize Interpreting data activity. The students can fill in the tally/frequency chart, bar chart and pictogram on the activity. Ask the children to work through the Bitesize interpreting data quiz or to complete the interpreting data worksheet (PDF 65KB).
