What we will be doing:

In this unit we will be introduced to craft artefacts. Key content: What is craft? What is an artefact? Materials, tools and techniques used in crafts (textiles). Properties of materials, their areas of use and how they can be combined.

Crafts in society: Importance of crafts for the individual and society, through history and in the present.

We will discuss the cultural importance of crafts, in Sweden and internationally. We will analysis artefacts and interpret what a craft artefact expresses and apply well developed reasoning about symbols, colour, form and material.

Properties of material

Metals, textiles and wood. Properties of materials, their areas of use and how they can be combined.

Aestethic expression

How different combinations of colour, form and materials influence the aesthetic expression of craft artefacts.

Importance of crafts

Importance of crafts for the individual and society, through history and in the present.

How the assessment/s within the unit will be completed:

Students will be assessed on completing a task in class.

Students will look at materials, tools and techniques used in crafts (textiles) and be assessed on some key terms.

Students will look at a selection of craft artefacts from Sweden and abroad and interpret what the craft artefacts expresses and apply well developed reasoning about symbols, colour, form and material.
