Algebra - Week 3 Lesson 1: Multiplying and Dividing Variables
Lesson:
- b x h = bh
- the variables are written beside each other which tells us they are being multiplied together
- b x b = b2 (b squared)
- you simply add the exponential values together
- when a variable doesn't have an exponent that means it is to the power of 1
- b3 x b5 = b8 (because 3 + 5 = 8)
- All you need to do is divide the coefficient (the number in front of the variable b) by 5.
- We are only going to focus on dividing terms with the same variables
- You just need to take the exponential value of the first term and divide it by the exponential value of the second term (5 - 3 = 2, so the answer is b2)
